Dean Mikami, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Professor, Associate Chair of Clinical Affairs, and Division Chief of General Surgery
Dr. Mikami earned his bachelor’s degree at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa and his doctor of medicine at the University of Kansas. Dr. Mikami completed his general surgery training and minimally invasive fellowship at The Ohio State University. He remained on the faculty at Ohio State from 2004 to 2016. He returned home in 2016 to the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. Dr. Mikami has continued his work in minimally invasive surgery of the GI tract, hernia repair, bariatric surgery, and advanced endoluminal therapies. He is currently a board member of SAGES, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and chairs the Evolving Technology and Procedure committee for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Mikami also serves as the Editor and Chief of Bariatric Surgical Practice and Patient Care (Anne Liebert publication). He has authored over 130 peer-review manuscripts and book chapters and has been invited as a guest speaker to over 230 local, national, and international surgical meetings. Dr. Mikami’s key focus areas are in f minimally invasive surgery, surgical endoscopy, hernia repair, bariatric surgery, and surgical education. His titles include Professor of Surgery, Division Chief of General Surgery, Associate Chair for Clinical Affairs, Associate Program Director, and Assistant Chief for the Queen’s Medical Center.
